CBD – A Brief Explanation
CBD, which is an abbreviation of cannabidiol, is a phytocannabinoid derived from the Cannabis sativa species.
The cannabis plant produces thousands of compounds which are separated into classes. The most recognized and talked about class is the cannabinoid of which there are over 100.
Cannabidiol (CBD) and delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are the most well-known of these cannabinoids. The significant difference between the two is that, unlike THC, CBD is not known to give any psychoactive effect.
CBD is most commonly extracted from the Hemp variety of the cannabis plant. To be classified as Hemp in the UK, the plant must contain less than 0.2% THC whilst having a minimum of 20% CBD.
The CBD is isolated from the other compounds using a variety of methods. Separating the cannabinoids ensures that manufacturers have full control over the ingredients contained within their CBD oil products.
Pure CBD extract without any other cannabinoids is known as CBD isolate. Full spectrum CBD oil is a solution that includes all of the naturally occurring plant compounds, including other cannabinoids (like THC), terpenes and essential oils.
What are the benefits of Vaporizing CBD e-liquid?
There are a variety of ways in which CBD oil can be used to assist in the treatment of symptoms and for general well-being.
Vaporizing CBD e-liquid is one of the most favoured methods due to its instant effects, bioavailability and convenience:-
One of the main reasons vaping CBD e-liquid has become so popular is that the effects are immediate. After vaping CBD oil in a CBD cartridge or vape pen, the CBD enters the bloodstream and the benefits can be felt. This is realised physically by a strong sense of relaxation over the body. Alongside this, the mind is restored to a calm state.
Immediately after vaping CBD, the substance is sent to your lungs and absorbed into your bloodstream as opposed to going through the complex digestive system. The CBD molecules are redistributed throughout the body via the bloodstream. The fast absorption of CBD vape juice is especially helpful for quick relief during pain flare ups and anxiety attacks.
Vaporizing CBD comes with a much higher bioavailability than alternative ingestion methods, as a result more of the compound is absorbed into your body.
CBD consumed orally has to pass through the gut and liver before entering the bloodstream. On this journey, the liver will reduce the amount of CBD, either through absorption or through chemical breakdown by liver enzymes. This process is called the “first-pass effect,” and it reduces the concentration of bioactive compounds.
During vaporization, the CBD is inhaled, entering the lungs directly. The CBD diffuses directly into your bloodstream rather than passing through your gut and liver.
Vaporizing CBD e-liquid avoids the first-pass effect, resulting in nearly four times as much CBD entering the circulation and achieving a bioavailability rate of 50 to 60 percent. Essentially, this means the same beneficial effects can be reached with a much smaller dosage of CBD.
Convenience and Portability
A subsequent reason for the popularity of vaporizing CBD oil is practicality. Receiving the benefits of CBD oil through vaporizing is certainly one of the most convenient methods available.
Firstly, using a vape pen is so easy whether you’re an old hand or a beginner.
Secondly, a CBD vape pen appears no different than a regular e-cigarette so will attract no unwanted attention.
Thirdly, the portability of a CBD vape pen allows the user to inhale the e-liquid at their leisure, wherever they go. The classic vape pen design is discreet and can easily fit into a bag or pocket, furthermore there is the option of carrying spare pre-filled cartridges when out; avoiding the necessity to transport bulky CBD oil containers around with you.
Vaping CBD e-liquid is also considered discreet as there is no strong, telltale odor attached to it. In fact, with the variety of flavours CBD vape oil is available in, the aroma omitted from the vaporizer is more like the sweet, floral smells you associate with aromatherapy.
Will CBD vape oil get me high?
The short, simple answer to this is absolutely not. CBD has no psychoactive effects of its own.
If you’re unfamiliar with the effects of CBD, you may not know what to expect from your first vape session and it is understandable that feeling unwanted side-effects may be of concern.
To clarify, vaping CBD oil will not leave you feeling significantly hazy, buzzy or out of sorts. It will not inhibit your ability to get work done or go about your day. It can make some people feel a little sleepy purely from the deep sense of relaxation so deciding what time of day is best to vape your CBD is necessary.
Vaporizing CBD e-liquid is more likely to make you feel clear-headed and focused. It is often described as a ‘wave of relief’ that can be felt throughout the entire body. The relief effect can feel somewhat like a meditative state and dependant upon the time of day you take it will determine what that effect will achieve.
Someone vaporizing CBD at bedtime is likely to benefit from an enhanced sleep quality and patterns. Whereas vaping CBD during the day can make you far more productive, focussed and motivated.
CBD Vape Oil – What Can it be Used For?
Since CBD exploded onto the market it has been commonly used to address anxiety, insomnia, to relieve neuropathic pain, to lower intraocular pressure, to increase appetite and also to decrease nausea and vomiting.
CBD is a pleiotropic drug in that it produces many effects through multiple molecular pathways. Scientific studies have identified more than 65 molecular targets of CBD.
Kronicvapes would like to make it clear that we do not make any claim that CBD will cure any illness or condition. The continuing scientific research at this stage remains inconclusive and until the appropriate bodies find evidence to the contrary, it cannot be said that CBD will cure.
However, an abundance of anecdotal evidence is suggesting that CBD is certainly a very effective supplement to health. We do promote CBD in respect of general wellbeing and suggest that it be used to assist in a balanced healthy lifestyle.
Kronicvapes strongly recommend consulting firstly with your GP before vaping CBD e-liquid should you have any underlying concerns or current health issues.
CBD and the Law
As the current law stands in August 2019, for CBD oil to be legal in the UK, it must contain no more than 0.2% THC, and the THC must not be easily separated from it. CBD is completely legal in the UK provided it has been derived from an industrial hemp strain that is EU-approved.
